  • THE ARLINGTON HOUSE VICTORIAN DANCE SOCIETY, based out of Northern Virginia, is an interpretive program of Arlington House, the Robert E. Lee Memorial (National Park Service), and is currently recruiting new members. This all-volunteer group was founded in 2012 under the direction of dance mistress Amy Kassens Delery, and performs dances of the mid-19th century in period clothing at Arlington House, Fort Washington Park, the Frederick Douglass Historic Site, Glen Echo, and other local venues. No previous dance experience is necessary but being able to dance with the musical beat is required. Rehearsals are held one Sunday afternoon each month at Goodwin House, Bailey's Crossroads and regular attendance is expected.   • THE ATLANTIC GUARD SOLDIER'S AID SOCIETY (AGSAS), based out of the East Coast, has been representing 1860s civilian (non-military) life for over 20 years.  AGSAS is a “progressive” civilian group where primary sources are the key to establishing one’s persona, creating an appropriate level period wardrobe, and collecting the material goods that a certain impression would have owned. AGSAS members participate in nearly a dozen events every year, including watching vintage baseball games at the Vintage Baseball Tournament in Gettysburg PA, enjoying 19th century picnics with period food and games, interpreting various 1860s occupations for visitors to Harper’s Ferry National Park, and participating in immersion events at historic locations such as Hopewell Furnace National Park.  During an immersion event, the attendees stay in period housing, use period style household items as much as possible, and interact with each other in period fashion for the duration of the event.  Group members also attend and host workshops or conferences that allow for sharing of ideas, research, and materials with others that want to improve their impressions.  Find us at www.agsas.org/about/ .

  • THE HISTORIC RECREATION SOCIETY is based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN.  We are a  group of folks who like to create and wear Victorian clothing (usually 1837 to 1901) but we have been known to do 1780s, Regency, Edwardian, and Titanic eras.  We host a winter ball, take part in many activities at the LeDuc House in Hastings, MN, go to social events (plays, operas, teas, and reenactments), and do fashion shows.   • THE LADIES LIVING HISTORY SOCIETY OF GREATER CINCINNATI , based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. Founded in 1993, the LLHSGC researches living portrayals of the 1860s, and sometimes other eras.   • THE OHIO LIVING HISTORY SOCIETY, based out of Ohio, is comprised of historical interpreters who aim to bring local history back to life.   • THE OLD WASHINGTON VINTAGE DANCERS, based in Washington, Arkansas.  We meet at 7:00 pm on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month to practice in the Washington, Arkansas fire station. Casual wear for practices; special events are dress up in period clothing. This group also volunteers with Historic Washington State Park several times a year.   • THE PALLAS ATHENA LADIES AID SOCIETY (PALAS), based in the mid-Atlantic region and PALAS-South, based in Florida, is an independent and neutral soldiers, aid society serving American Civil War era soldier reenactors, participating in both battle reenactments and in living history presentations.  As an “authentic civilian” unit, PALAS adheres to the highest standards of historical reenacting, and has been jury-selected by the most prominent sponsors of national-level reenactments and commemorations to participate in those invitation-only events. We are a family-friendly unit composed of ladies, gentlemen and children residing primarily in the mid-Atlantic region, with PALAS-South based in Florida.   • THE POTOMAC CITIZENS, based in the greater Washington DC metropolitan area, is a progressive civilian Civil War living history group. Our members come from Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania for the most part. Our home base is Fort Washington NHP in Maryland and Brentsville State Park in Prince William County, Virgina.. The park rangers in both locations completely support us, and in return we promise historical integrity and education.  We maintain high standards of historical accuracy, but welcome everyone, including those just starting out in reenacting. We assign mentors to new members to minimize the difficulties encountered in getting started, and maintain a large loaner box to help folks get up to speed.   • THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY CIVIL WAR ERA DANCERS, based in the Northern Virginia and Shenandoah region, and led by Tom and Lesley Mack, is an all-volunteer, non-profit group whose main goal is to raise money for battlefield preservation by teaching and enjoying early American dance.   • THE U.S. MUDDY RIVER BATTALION is a Civil War Reenactment  umbrella organization of company level units that have come together to form a scaled down Regiment. We portray federal Infantry and our member units are located out of western Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska & South Dakota. We now have a battalion level civilian organization known as the Muddy River Chapter - Ladies Union Aid Society. This segment was formed to empower our civilians, providing civilian related activities, workshops, and support to the battalion with activities such as mail call, basket auctions, plays and so forth.   • THE WESTERN VIRGINIA ARTILLERY is based in St. Mary’s, WV.  We are a family-oriented Civil War Reenacting group. The ladies in the group portray civilians, do needlework, including knitting and crochet, ladies aid society members, and cooking. We do camp life and care for our soldiers.
